Overview
You will be picked up from your hotel in Cairo by a Visitors Egypt Tour representative and transferred to Alexandria for a day trip. In Alexandria you will visit Pompey's Pillar, a monument constructed in honour of Emperor Diocletian at the end of the 4th century and originally part of the temple of Serapis. Along the way you will also explore the Catacombs, the largest Roman cemetery in the area, which consists of three levels cut into the rock. Lunch will be served at a local restaurant in Alexandria. After lunch you will see the Qaitbay Citadel, built on the site of the ancient Pharos (the lighthouse) of Alexandria, and then visit the Bibliotheca Alexandrina. The tour concludes with a drive back to your hotel in Cairo.
