Overview

Standing above the modern city, the Cairo Citadel (Citadel of Saladin) will be the first highlight of your private tour. You will walk the medieval fortifications with your guide, enjoy sweeping views of Cairo from the walls and explore palaces, museums and mosques within the complex. Along the way you'll visit the 19th-century Alabaster Mosque of Muhammad Ali and hear the story of Ottoman commander Mohamed Ali Pasha and the domed mosque he built during his controversial reign. After exploring the citadel, the day will continue with a full-day tour showcasing old Egyptian artefacts from the beginning of history. Your guide will point out key pieces and explain their historical and architectural context as you move through the displays. To finish, you will enjoy Egyptian cuisine at a nearby restaurant before the tour concludes at your hotel.
