Overview
The Museum of Islamic Art (MIA) in Cairo, Egypt is considered one of the greatest in the world, and your visit centres on its exceptional holdings. You will see rare woodwork and plaster artefacts alongside metal, ceramic, glass, crystal and textile objects representing all periods and regions of the Islamic world. In recent years the museum has displayed about 4,500 artefacts across 25 halls, though it houses more than 100,000 objects in total, with the remainder kept in storage. The collection also includes rare manuscripts of the Qur’an, some featuring calligraphy written in silver ink on pages with elaborate borders. After the museum, the day continues with a full-day tour showing old Egyptian artefacts from the beginning of history. Along the way you will learn about key pieces from Egypt’s long past and how they relate to the broader cultural story. The tour ends with a meal of Egyptian cuisine at a nearby restaurant, followed by return to your hotel.
