Journey Through Thebes - West Bank (Valley of the Kings, Hatshepsut & Memnon)
A trusted partner experience, hand-picked and featured on This is Egypt.

Overview
This experience explores the West Bank of Luxor, beginning at the Valley of the Kings. You will have the possibility to enter three tombs as you explore an area that is known to contain 63 tombs and chambers. The valley served as the principal burial place for major royal figures of the Egyptian New Kingdom and for a number of privileged nobles. The royal tombs are decorated with scenes from Egyptian mythology and offer clues about the beliefs and funerary rituals of the period. You will also visit the Temple of Queen Hatshepsut at Deir el-Bahari, the monumental mortuary temple of Egypt’s first female ruler. The temple’s three imposing terraces contain famous reliefs, including the transportation of Hatshepsut’s two obelisks and a scene of the queen offering four calves to Amon Ra. These reliefs also include the journey to Punt (now called Somalia), which represents the earliest pictorial documentation of a recorded trade expedition in ancient Egypt. The visit will finish with a view of the Colossi of Memnon.
