Half day tour to queens valley, Habu temple and colossi of Memnon

Overview

On this guided tour of the west bank you will visit the Valley of the Queens, also known as Wadi el‑Melikat. As you move through the valley you will see more than 90 tombs, many stylishly and lavishly decorated. An outstanding example is the rock‑cut resting place known as QV66, carved for Queen Nefertari, the favourite wife of Ramses II of the 19th Dynasty; the reliefs in her tomb remain intact and it is the largest and most spectacular in the valley. Along the way you will also explore the temple of Medinat Habu, one of the largest memorial temples in Egypt. The complex measures about 320 m from east to west and roughly 200 m from north to south. Built to commemorate Ramses III, who is considered the last great pharaoh of Egypt, the mortuary temple is covered with reliefs depicting his conquests. In total the memorial temple contains some 7,000 square metres of well‑preserved decorated surfaces, offering extensive examples of ancient Egyptian relief work and monumental architecture.
