Full-Day Tour to Dendara & Abydos Temples from Luxor

Overview

You will set out from Luxor with an Egyptologist tour guide who will pick you up on time and drive north through the Nile River Valley. Along the way you will pass small villages and scenes of daily life, and visit the Osiris Temple to explore how religion shaped the pharaohs’ civilisation. At Abydos you will see the memorial temple of Seti I. Your guide will explain its significance and the famous Abydos King List, an inscription from the nineteenth dynasty that shows cartouches of most dynastic pharaohs of Egypt, from Menes through to Seti I’s father, Ramesses. You will hear detailed historical context about Abydos and its role in ancient Egyptian belief. The day will continue with a visit to Dendara temple, known as the most Greco‑Roman temple complex in ancient Egypt. After these visits you will return to Luxor. Throughout the trip your Egyptologist guide will provide commentary and background to help you understand the sites and their place in Egyptian history.
