Overview
On the West Bank of the Nile you will explore some of ancient Egypt’s most iconic sites. At the Valley of the Kings, the burial place of most pharaonic rulers from the 18th to the 20th dynasties, you will see several royal tombs. The most well-known tombs include Tutankhamun (where the treasures of the Golden King were discovered), Thutmose I, Thutmose III, Ramses VI, Amenhotep II and Merenptah. During the visit you will enter three tombs, according to which tombs are open at the time. You will also visit the mortuary Temple of Queen Hatshepsut, commonly known as Deir el-Bahari. This temple honours Hatshepsut, the first known female monarch who ruled for about two decades and was stepmother to Thutmose III. Nearby stand the Colossi of Memnon, two huge stone statues of Pharaoh Amenhotep III from Dynasty XVIII, dating to around 1350 BC. Along the way you will have the chance to take in the architecture and scale of these ancient monuments and learn about the rulers and history they commemorate.
