Day Tour to EL Fayoum From Cairo

Overview

Your Tamer Safari Tours representative will pick you up from your hotel in Cairo for a day exploring El Fayoum’s most famous sites. The drive from Cairo to Fayoum is about 95 km. Today’s visits take place in the Wadi El Rayan area, a protected zone designated in 1989. In Wadi El Rayan you will visit Wadi Hitan (the Valley of the Whales), located roughly 90 km from Fayoum and recognised by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site for the 40-million-year-old whale skeletons found there. Along the way you will stop at Mudawara Mountain before continuing to the Wadi Al Rayan waterfalls. Wadi El Rayan itself is a natural depression some 42 m below sea level and includes two lakes connected by Egypt’s only waterfalls, formed in 1970 when drainage water from Fayoum’s farmland overflowed and created the falls. The trip brings together desert scenery, geological features and important palaeontological sites within the protected Wadi El Rayan area.
