Overview

Your Cairo tour guide will meet you at your hotel in Cairo or Giza and you will travel in a private, air-conditioned vehicle to Wadi El-Natrun, a site often regarded as the birthplace of Christian monasticism. The valley once held about 50 monasteries, of which only three have survived into modern times. You will begin at Deir al-Baramus, the oldest of the surviving monasteries and the most isolated in character. Next you will visit Deir Anba Bishoi, where the saint’s body remains in the monastery, giving the site a strong sense of continuity and devotion. The visit will finish at Deir El-Suryani, the smallest and most compact of the three. An optional stop for lunch may be included before you are transferred back to your hotel.
